At the EGM of the English Bridge Union held on Wednesday 4th June the Members voted on the Board's "Pay to Play" proposals.

The voting results were 52 in favour and 31 against the proposals. Surrey County Bridge Association cast its 4 votes against the proposals, in line with the views of BDBC and other local clubs. Full voting results can be seen here.

The changes will now be defined in detail, taking effect from 1st April 2010; during the intervening period there will be no changes to existing methods of subscription. This provides adequate time for BDBC to make any decisions about its future.

Following the club AGM, our feedback on the final EBU Strategy Proposal has been submitted to SCBA.

The EBU has distributed its consolidated Strategy Proposal for the Future of the EBU and Duplicate Bridge in England.

This is the final proposal following the consultation process which has run since June 2007. The proposal will be voted on by County representatives, who are the EBU Shareholders, at an EGM on 4 June 2008. Between now and then we will have an opportunity to provide our feedback on the proposals to the Surrey County Bridge Association.

Feedback from BDBC on the revised Strategy Document. This has been sent to the EBU and to SCBA.

Following the feedback process and the recent EBU AGM, a revised Strategy Document has been published. This is intended to trigger a further round of consultation betweeen October 2007 and January 2008. The EBU has also added a number of new Q&As.

Feedback from Busbridge Duplicate Bridge Club on the EBU Strategy Document. This has been sent to the SCBA and direct to the EBU.

The impact of the EBU strategy proposals on the club and its members was reviewed at an Extraordinary General Meeting on Monday 16th July with 44 members present. It is clear that these proposals, if implemented, could have a significant impact on the club and its members.
