12 June 2009: BDBC and EBU Pay to Play

The recent survey of members showed a clear majority in favour of affiliation, amongst both EBU members and non EBU members. Accordingly, the committee has decided that the club should remain affiliated to the EBU after the introduction of P2P in April 2010.

Members also showed a clear majority preference for remaining with a Flat Rate subscription.

11 June 2009: Wilson Trophy

From 2009, the Wilson Trophy will be awarded to the member achieving the best results over the full year, running from April 2009 to the end of March 2010.

To qualify, members must play at least 30 times on Pairs evenings at the club during the year. Each player's overall ranking will be based on the average of their best 20 results.

The Wilson trophy was presented to the club by Chris Wilson, the founder. The winner will be awarded the trophy at the club's AGM in April 2010.

At the EGM of the English Bridge Union held on Wednesday 4th June the Members voted on the Board's "Pay to Play" proposals.

The voting results were 52 in favour and 31 against the proposals. Surrey County Bridge Association cast its 4 votes against the proposals, in line with the views of BDBC and other local clubs.

The changes will now be defined in detail, taking effect from 1st April 2010; during the intervening period there will be no changes to existing methods of subscription. This provides adequate time for BDBC to make any decisions about its future.

AGM 2008

The 2008 AGM was held on Tuesday 22nd April at 19.30.

Full details will follow in the minutes, but in summary

• The new committee was duly appointed.
• The subscription level for 2007-2008 was fixed at £40.
• The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice was selected as the club charity for 2007-2008.
• The club's response to the final version of the EBU Strategy Proposal was agreed, subject to final wording by John and Gerald.

The 2007 AGM was held on Tuesday 24th April 2007 at 7.30 pm.

Full details will follow in the minutes, but in summary

• The new committee was duly appointed.
• The proposal to consider the purchase of a dealing machine was rejected.
• The proposal concerning start times was accepted after being amended to give the director discretion to fix the movement at any time after 7.20pm.
• The subscription level for 2007-2008 was fixed at £35 and the visitor fee at £2.50.
• Headway Surrey was selected as the club charity for 2007-2008.
